Concert tickets are multiplying at my house like rabbits. Before February of this year, when I attended the Miranda Lambert concert at Ft. Sill, I hadn’t been to a concert since about 1992 when I saw Brooks and Dunn at an outdoor venue. Before that concert, I hadn’t been to one since the early eighties; not including a couple of local shows I’ve seen like Oklahoma's own Phil Sampson and Blueprint. In the late seventies and early eighties, I attended numerous concerts around southwest Oklahoma: Heart, Hank Williams Jr., REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Van Halen, and the Doobie Brothers to name a few. The first concert I ever attended was Foghat in Corpus Christi, Texas; the last was The Grateful Dead north of Austin about 1981. Then I stopped partying and settled down. Then I became a mom and that’s what I did for the next 20 years. Then my husband talked me into going to a concert in OKC this summer with another couple we have been out with before. They wanted to see Styx and Boston. Since I missed seeing those two bands in my youth, I thought it might be fun. I guess it will be, if they still sound good and I don’t have to deal with any claustrophobic crowd situations. Did I mention this was out of town? That means I have to stress about my dog getting her medication on time that evening. But I’m not talking myself out of it or anything; or am I? It will either be great fun or I will vow never to leave my home again. Stay tuned. Now cut to last weekend, when my daughter came for a visit. She presented me with a present while she was here; two tickets to paradise. Actually, two ticket to see my favorite group of all time, Santana. This Okie gal thinks that Carlos Santana is a Rock God; the Greatest Guitarist of All Time. I told my daughter that she couldn’t have given me a more perfect gift. I’m glad she knows me so well. So, here I sit with concert tickets to three different shows. Very weird for this borderline agoraphobic. Now rock out as you enjoy my favorite Santana song. Which one? All of them and many more... Europa (Earth’s Cry, Heaven’s Smile)
So, what’s going on here? I heard about Lynyrd Skynyrd coming to Ft. Sill and decided earlier this year to attend that 4th of July celebration. We would be able to enjoy VIP passes to the event; which will include parking, a meal and up-front seating. At the end of the show there will be fireworks; always a plus. Sounds fun right? Freeeee-Birrrrd!
