Hey, you’ve got your Entertainers in my Politics!
No, you’ve got your Politics in my Entertainment!
The “great philosopher” Kid Rock commented on CMT Insider recently on the concept of keeping his thoughts to himself when it comes to politics.
"I truly believe that people like myself, who are in a position of entertainers in the limelight, should keep their mouth shut on politics," he noted. "Because at the end of the day, let me tell you what I 'm good at: I'm good at writing songs and singing. What I'm not educated in is the field of political science. And so for me to be sharing my views and influencing people of who I think they should be voting for ... I think would be very irresponsible on my part. So I'll just keep my mouth shut on that."
He further suggests that political candidates might be better off to avoid close connections to those in the entertainment business.
"I think celebrity endorsements hurt politicians," he said. "Because as soon as somebody comes out for a politician, especially in Hollywood, when they all go, 'I'm voting for this guy!' -- I go, 'That's not who I'm voting for!'”
Man, you know I hate to agree with "the Kid" on anything.
Why exactly do entertainers think that the country gives a collective crap about their political views? Their opinions hold no greater weight than the Average Joe living on my street. But these blow-hard egomaniacs think that their "popularity" somehow makes them an expert on political matters. Shut up already, and just act or sing or whatever it is you do for your chosen profession. Yes, you have the right to free speech. But if I’ve shelled out my hard earned money to be entertained and instead I am forced to hear political rhetoric, I’m going to be upset. If I want to hear political opinions, I’ll go to a rally, not a concert. What a turn off!
I read the headline this week, Emmy’s Post Worst Ratings Ever. Well, duh. Three reasons for that: the award show is boring, few watch the shows that are nominated, and actors make political statements instead of acceptance speeches.
I can’t watch award shows anymore because these entertainers have lost my respect. And obviously, I’m not the only one who feels this way. The same goes for news outlets. When did they switch from reporting the news, to reporters giving their biased opinions? "News" used to mean reporting facts, now it’s so slanted.
And before you get me wrong, I’m turned off by anyone who is too far Left or Right.
Only when people are open minded and can meet in the middle, is progress made. When you live so far out on the fringe, you miss all that can be accomplished through cooperation and working together for the common good.
Hey, we are more alike than we are different. Everyone I know wants the following things: to provide for their families, work that gives them a sense of accomplishment, quality education for their children, access to the best medical care available, and security from outside threats. Let’s focus on our similarities, not our differences.
